Growing Futures: Where School Meals, Soil Health, and Community Come Together in Murang’a County
This is a four-year project funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, with its pilot phase focused in Murang’a County. The project targets 30 schools, each of which will establish 4K Clubs. It also engages local smallholder farmers, some of whom will have their farms developed into demonstration sites for agroecology.
A key objective of the project is to ensure that each targeted school develops its own kitchen garden to support and strengthen school feeding programs.

Attending the Knowledge 4 Great Green Wall Action (K4GGWA) Component 2 Regional Capacity Building Workshop in Accra, Ghana from 23rd to 26th March, 2026 was an enriching and transformative experience for the Young Professionals for Agriculture Development (YPARD) Ghana country chapter members. Over four intensive days, the youth engaged with cutting-edge tools, practical methodologies and collaborative learning approaches to strengthen restoration decision-making across landscapes.

Every year on 17 June, the Coalition of Action 4 Soil Health (CA4SH) joins in with our global partners, allies, and Coalition members in celebrating World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. CA4SH is firmly rooted in the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and Drought (UNCCD). In this op-ed, Dr Leigh Winowiecki (CA4SH Co-Lead and Soil and Land Health Research Theme Lead for CIFOR-ICRAF) looks to this day as a beacon to celebrate our successes and reflect on our way forward as a multistakeholder organization committed to restoring and protecting land.
