Biochar Resilience Network: From Isolated Trials to Shared Knowledge
Biochar field trials are taking place across many regions, but the resulting data remains fragmented, difficult to access, and rarely comparable across projects. This slows learning, increases the cost of experimentation, and limits the ability of producers and companies to make informed decisions.
The Biochar Resilience Network has created a pre-competitive Data Commons where anonymised results from biochar field trials are shared and compared across geographies, feedstocks, and production systems.
This webinar will introduce the initiative and present the emerging platform designed to host and explore these datasets.

Digital Platform for Soil Health Knowledge Exchange: Establishing an Ecosystem of Soil Data-Driven Services Inception Workshop
In 2024, CIFOR-ICRAF and Varda piloted a soil knowledge exchange initiative in Kenya and Tanzania, funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD). The pilot focused on identifying barriers and opportunities for building a collaborative soil data ecosystem and directly shaped the design of this project.
Building on the pilot initiative, CIFOR-ICRAF and the Varda Foundation, with support from NORAD, are now launching a new three-year initiative to create a dynamic ecosystem of soil data-driven services across Kenya, Ghana, Malawi, and Tanzania. The initiative seeks to create a scalable collaborative platform that facilitates the exchange of soil data, information, and knowledge among key stakeholders, including researchers, policymakers, youth and women organizations, farmers and pastoralists, conservation organizations and agri-food private sector companies. A central focus of the initiative is the creation of a comprehensive soil data infrastructure that will support the development of data-driven soil information services tailored to meet the specific needs of stakeholders in Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, and Tanzania.

Breakthrough Agenda Report 2025
Event Details
Date: 30 October 2025
Time: 16:00-17:00 CET
Background information
The Breakthrough Agenda Report 2025 identifies practical opportunities for countries to work together in ways that advance both economic development, energy security and sustainability goals. At a testing time for international cooperation, the report underscores its importance to avoid market fragmentation and falling short of the Breakthrough Agenda goals.
This is the fourth report in a series that assesses the impact of international collaboration in accelerating the transition to clean energy technologies and sustainable solutions in key sectors. It was prepared by the International Energy Agency in collaboration with the Climate High-Level Champions.
This year’s report defines how successful international collaboration can be measured and what effective collaboration looks like in practice, creating a comprehensive monitoring framework that can help countries and industries sustain momentum across sectors. It also identifies new priority areas for international collaboration to support the sustainable production and use of fertilisers.
Released ahead of the COP 30 meetings in Belém, the findings of the Breakthrough Agenda Report 2025 will provide key inputs to the COP 30 Presidency’s Plan to Accelerate Solutions and country efforts to enhance collaboration in key sectors.
This webinar will present the key findings of the reports, followed by a Q&A session with the authors.
