The British Society of Soil Science is pleased to be hosting a webinar for London Climate Action Week on Monday 22 June from 3:00 - 4:30pm (UK time) which is free of charge to register. Join industry expert speakers as they discuss the role of soils in climate action.
Healthy soils are fundamental to achieving climate resilience and delivering net zero ambitions. Soil systems underpin carbon sequestration, water security, biodiversity recovery, resilient food systems, urban sustainability and the circular bioeconomy. Yet soils remain significantly underrepresented within climate policy, investment strategies and corporate transition planning. This London Climate Action Week webinar will bring together leaders from science, business, finance and policy to explore how soil can be positioned as a strategic climate solution supporting national and global climate ambitions.
The panel includes:
Prof. Pete Smith - University of Aberdeen
Dr. Thorunn Wolfram Petursdottir - FAO, Global Soil Partnership
Dr Elen Lemaître-Curri - “4 per 1000” Initiative
Prof. Abdul Wakeel – University of Agriculture, Faisalabad
Dr Leigh Ann Winowiecki – Landscape Alliance/World Agroforestry
Dr. Lizzie Sagoo - BSSS President Elect (Chair)
Dr. Khalid Mahmood - BSSS Partnerships (Co-Chair)
The webinar will explore the following themes:
1) Understanding Climate Risk and Building Resilience
2) Regenerating Nature and Supporting Net Zero
3) Finance, Innovation and Climate Action
4) Global Perspectives and COP Connections
The transition to net zero requires integrated solutions that connect science, policy, finance and implementation. Soil provides a unique opportunity to bridge these areas while supporting climate adaptation, resilient infrastructure, biodiversity and sustainable economic growth.
