GLOBAL YOUTH PRIORITY 5

Protect and Promote Indigenous and Local Knowledge and Practices as Co-Equal Evidence for Soil Health

Indigenous youth and local communities hold generations of knowledge of soil stewardship, including practices such as traditional composting, terracing, mixed cropping, agroforestry, and community-based soil conservation.

Across regions, young people recognize these ancestral systems as essential to healthy and resilient soil ecosystems. Yet, these knowledge systems remain undervalued, excluded, and at risk of being lost.

Youth seek to protect, integrate, and promote Indigenous and local knowledge as co-equals alongside empirical science to strengthen action on soil health.
