Bringing soil health evidence to bear on policy and practice: The case for increased soil health monitoring
Abstract:
Scaling global soil health necessitates evidence-based action from multiple stakeholders, including fostering an enabling policy environment. Robust soil health data can help decisionmakers maximise impact and reduce redundancies in their interventions by highlighting knowledge gaps and tracking changes in soil health over time. This session will explore recent initiatives from policymakers to enhance their access to and implementation of soil health data to reach objectives at different scales. Examples include operationalizing the African Union’s Nairobi and Kampala Declarations through the CAADP Strategy and Action Plan at the regional level, as well as national-level initiatives to reach Nationally Determined Contributions through scaling soil health. The session will also chart a way forward for increasing access to soil health data and capacity for actioning it in policy environments. Finally, the session will demonstrate the need for multistakeholder collaboration in translating policy into practice for scaling global soil health.
