    In fragile contexts, NGOs support ecosystem restoration and build the foundations for climate finance readiness. ODI climate finance expert will moderate a fire-side exploration of practical chanels for climate finance to conflict affected communities. How can these pathways be formalised to meet climate actors expectations? What have we learned and what are the opportunities that are yet to be concretised? With ICRAF, the Somalia BRCiS Consortium and the government of Danmark, it charts a path from aid to climate opportunity.

    This side event will showcase climate-resilient practices, innovations and country experiences towards transition to sustainable food-system that directly align with the Global Goal on Adaptation headline indicators. Drawing from CGIAR’s Multifunctional Landscapes Science Program and partners, the session will focus on the section of indicators 9 (b) Food and agricultural production, under the headline indicator Agricultural land under climate resilient agriculture practices and technologies, including:

    • scaling climate-resilient practices and technologies (Indicator 1.1),

    • advancing agroforestry and agrosilvopastoralism (1.2),

    • strengthening soil and water conservation and restoration measures (1.3), and

    This session will spotlight soil health as a cross-cutting solution for climate mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity conservation, land restoration, food and nutrition security, farmers’ income and livelihoods. It will explore how to build and use credible evidence and scale up successful farmer-led initiatives through fit-for-purpose data, partnerships, and investment. Grounded in cases from Africa and Brazil, and youth-led initiatives, the discussion will link scientific and financial innovation to national pathways under the Rio Conventions and sustainable development goals.

    By bringing together policymakers, scientists, researchers and farmers, we will explore the challenges, incentives and opportunities for scaling regenerative agriculture practice, and we will set the stage for linking UNCCD COP16 in Riyadh to the implementation agenda of COP30 in Belém by showcasing flagship initiatives and evidence-based solutions driving the global target to restore 1.5 billion hectares by 2030.

    The panel will highlight the LA region’s most widely adopted sustainable production systems, which have demonstrated their effectiveness in delivering science-based solutions, reducing environmental impact, and providing economic benefits for farmers. The session will feature projects and solutions developed in real-world production contexts and led by farmers, with the purpose of advancing and scaling up this model of agriculture that regenerates soils and contributes to climate change mitigation.

  • A new narrative for agriculture and food systems in the Americas

    This dialogue will serve as a working session to co-develop, refine, and contextualize the proposed targets, ensuring they incorporate the actions, frameworks, and partnership models outlined in the PAS, and respond to needs and realities at local and regional levels. It will continue an ongoing process to build a community of action to conserve and restore 1.5 billion hectares of degraded land, including reversing the degradation of 250 million hectares of agricultural landscapes, and to enhance water and drought resilience by protecting 30% of lands and inland waters.
