2024 CA4SH WEBINAR SERIES SESSION 2 - The road ahead for soil health action: Investing in soil health from the ground up

The 2024 CA4SH Webinar Series

The Coalition of Action 4 Soil Health (CA4SH) is a multistakeholder partnership committed to scaling soil health, globally. CA4SH ’s membership base comprises stakeholders from member states, the private sector, research institutions, civil society, farmer organisations, multilateral organisations, and NGOs. CA4SH is now leveraging the wealth of knowledge and experiences from partners to address key challenges currently constraining farmers to implement healthy soil practices. Through the virtual Webinar Series, we will explore soil-related themes and share experiences with a focus on tailoring and scaling successful methodologies. The 2024 Webinar Series will be held over three sessions under the topics of bringing soil health into policy, science & knowledge for improving and monitoring soil health, and financing healthy soil practices.

Background and objectives of the Finance event

Increasing soil health may seem as easy as changing land use practices towards regenerative systems, but it is rarely so straightforward for farmers on the ground - especially smallholders. Transitioning to new systems usually sees farmers’ yields decrease before they increase, and support is needed to help them bridge the gap. There are various ways in which organisations can invest in soil health by supporting farmers on the ground and making a case for investing in soil carbon stocks through regenerative practices.

To help raise awareness of the various mechanisms of financing soil health, CA4SH is organising the third session of the 2024 Webinar Series around the topic of financing soil health.

The objectives are fourfold:

  1. Present emerging finance mechanisms for scaling soil health on the ground

  2. Introduce the concept of carbon markets and demonstrate how this can benefit farmers and investors

  3. Convening investors around financing for building healthy soil ecosystems and monitoring their impact

  4. Connect audiences with key finance actors through a question-and-answer period
