Integrating soil organic carbon into Nationally Determined Contributions
On 21 October 2022, CA4SH participated in a policy roundtable organized by Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA), bringing together experts and developing recommendations on how to include soil organic carbon in Member States’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Watch a recording of the session:
AICCRA’s work is based in six focus countries in Africa (Senegal, Mali, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya and Zambia), driven by their mission to “make climate information services and climate-smart agriculture more accessible to millions of smallholder farmers across Africa.”
The original policy briefs reflect these target areas, and CA4SH is keen to partner with other interested national partners to extend this initiative to new areas and add to this page.

Despite the benefits, there are few policies that incentivize farmers to invest in maintaining and improving soil health. This policy brief highlights opportunities for the inclusion of soil health and soil organic carbon (SOC) into the National Determined Contributions (NDC) of Senegal.
